Being an industry standard can make a company lazy and unwilling to do the things they should in the market they wish to continue dominating. You would lose, for the fact that many other apps have some unique or better tools in some areas, and certainly many examples of much better implementations of user interface, a thing that is archaic, at best, with Photoshop.
